The Home Heat Helpline advises energy customers concerned about paying their energy bills and keeping warm during the winter. It also gives advice to low-income households in need of heating help and advice. It is free to call and is open 9am-8pm Monday to Friday and 10am-2pm on Saturdays.

Smart meters are the next generation of electricity and gas meters. They look like ordinary meters but are far more technically sophisticated. These new meters will bring about the end of estimated bills and give customers and energy companies accurate and up-to-date information on energy being used in the home and across the country. In addition, customers won't have to wait in for a meter reader to call as the meter is read remotely.

Nationwide, energy customers are being caught up in an electricity prepayment meter fraud. Criminals are using cloned keys to top up credit illegally.
