The process of switching company can be made simpler by having certain information about your energy tariff and how much energy you use, including:

The name of your current tariff

How you pay for your energy (i.e. by direct debit, on receiving the of bill, etc)

How much gas and/or electricity you use
Customers can find all this information on their Annual Statement, which energy companies have been sending out since June 2010.
Annual Statements also include a reminder that you can switch to another company and give independent advice on how you can do this.
