The voice of the energy industry

Energy UK comments on the Committee on Climate Change's new report

"The UK needs a joined up, forward-thinking energy policy..." said Angela Knight CBE, Chief Executive of Energy UK, commenting on the Committee on Climate Change's new report 'Next steps on Electricity Market Reform – securing the benefits of low-carbon investment':

“The UK needs a joined up, forward-thinking energy policy which addresses the genuine concerns people and business have about rising costs, how much they pay for energy, and also keeps the lights on. There is still a lot of work to be done to get all the pieces of the policy puzzle in place so that we can move to a lower carbon economy at an affordable cost.

We want to work with government to create a clear route-map for how the UK is going to balance attracting investment, meeting demand, building supply chains and keeping industry competitive in a low cost energy world. This is vital to provide investors with the certainty they need to commit long-term finance to major projects and developments, and allow investment in energy infrastructure to play its key role in helping the regrowth of the UK economy.

The UK’s energy industry already creates jobs for more than 600,000 people and, over time as we move from fossils to more sustainable fuels, those jobs will get greener.”
