More choice for energy customers, Slade says

Energy customers have greater choice and suppliers are making it quicker and easier to switch, Energy UK said. CEO Lawrence Slade said new figures from Cornwall Energy proved competition in the non-domestic energy market is increasing according to the latest report from Cornwall Energy, with more suppliers in the market fighting for customers than ever before.

The ‘August’ report, commissioned by Energy UK, shows:

  • There are 39 companies supplying energy in the business electricity market
  • There are 33 companies supplying energy in the business gas market; 24 of these supply both electricity and gas to the non-domestic sector.
  • An additional seven companies have started supplying electricity and/or gas since 30 April 2014

Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK, said:

“We have seen a transformation in the energy retail market over recent years as new entrants are coming in and shaking up the market. Increased competition is driving prices down across the board for customers.”
