Breakfast Briefing Domestic Demand-side flexibility: Unlocking the potential
Date: Thursday 21 July
Time: 08:30-10:00

The future grid will be highly dependent on intermittent renewables with a ‘backbone of off-shore wind’. April’s Energy Security Strategy ramped up the volume of generation build-out to 2030, including 50GW of off-shore wind and a five-fold increase in solar. What are the implications of this for grid-balancing? What volumes of energy flexibility will be needed? And, what role could aggregate domestic demand play here?

The webinar will explore these questions, providing an overview of progress, highlighting barriers to accelerating action and propose potential near-term options for expanding this nascent sector
Confirmed speakers:

  • Naomi Baker, Senior Policy Manager, Energy UK (Chair)

  • Royston Black, Lead Consultant, Engage Consulting

  • National Grid ESO, speaker (TBC)

  • Alex Schoch, Flexibility Team Lead, Octopus Energy

  • Sophie Yule-Bennett, Senior Advisor, EU Power Team, The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP)
