Energy UK is promoting industry's commitments to customers on back-billing, for energy used many months or years previously.
An event is being held today - attended by a range of energy suppliers, consumer groups, representatives from Government and the regulator - to communicate energy suppliers' commitments to the principles of so-called back-billing.
The Home Heat Helpline is visiting the Scottish Parliament today to inform MSPs about help available to people across Scotland who may be struggling with their energy bills.
The event in Holyrood will provide information about assistance offered by the Helpline - an independent telephone hotline that acts as a one-stop-shop for advice and support, particularly aimed at the elderly and people on low incomes.
Commenting on the launch of the Green Deal, Angela Knight CBE, Chief Executive of Energy UK said:
"Energy UK fully supports the Green Deal and we as an industry will help the Government and providers of the Green Deal in making it a success. It is very welcome that customers are now being reached and being encouraged to make their homes warmer by taking out Green Deals. Over the long term, this programme will help customers both upgrade their home and manage their energy consumption.
With temperatures set to plummet following a mild Christmas, Energy UK is advising anybody worried about staying warm to call the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 for help with their fuel bills.
The Home Heat Helpline is a free, impartial and confidential service that connects people on low incomes with support which is worth an average of £160. The help available includes rebates, grants for insulation and new boilers, and advice on saving energy.
