Energy UK responds to DECC's Gas Security of Supply announcement
Following a written Ministerial statement from DECC on gas security of supply, Angela Knight, Chief Executive of Energy UK, said:
"We have been supportive of Government’s need to investigate whether we can be sure of a reliable and secure gas supply and it comes as no surprise to us that they have found the gas market to be well-functioning and in good shape to weather the upcoming winter and beyond.
There is more gas in store now than there was at the same time in 2010 when we experienced the coldest December for 100 years. We continue to have good storage levels across the EU where we can draw on supplies through our pipelines from the Netherlands and Belgium. We also import gas by pipeline from Norway and by sea as LNG through a number of special terminals and use a substantial amount of our own North Sea gas. We may face a number of challenges during winter, but we can be confident that our gas supplies will see us through.”
