Energy UK response to new £20m Green Deal communities scheme
In response to an announcement from DECC that a £20 million Green Deal communities scheme will be set up to help households benefit from the Green Deal on a street-by-street or area basis, Energy UK said:
“Encouraging individuals and communities to consider how to make properties energy efficient is obviously good news. Today’s announcement recognises the important role local authorities can play in encouraging people to take up measures that will help save them money on their energy bills. It also sends a signal that energy efficiency is vital to meeting the country’s long term energy goals while the halo effect of community-wide improvement programmes can also trigger local regeneration beyond energy efficiency.
“The UK energy industry supports measures that helps customers live in warmer, more comfortable homes while both reducing energy use and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. We are already working closely with many local authorities around the country to provide energy saving solutions and will continue to do so to help customers and encourage others, such as landlords, to work with us.”
