Energy UK comments on House of Lords report

In response to the House of Lords EU Sub Committee’s report No Country is an Energy Island: Security Investment for the EU's Future released today, Angela Knight CBE, Chief Executive of Energy UK said:

“The Committee is right to highlight the challenge of ensuring that energy policy, both here and across the EU, results in a  secure, low carbon and affordable supply of energy.

The Government’s Energy Bill is progressing through Parliament, and this contains the framework that is intended to attract the international capital needed into the UK to build new power stations. It also sets out the proposals for the capacity mechanism that will keep the lights on.

We are though, as always impacted by both local, European and international requirements. So what is required is a clarity on how this all interacts together, proper costings put in place and a sensible transition plan. We would strongly support that this report, and the points it raises, are fully debated by the House of Lords.”
