Energy companies give millions to customers
Millions of customers will benefit from a £6 million boost to energy companies’ trust funds and chosen charities, Energy UK said today. The six largest suppliers have agreed to donate money that has been paid, but for which no energy company can be found.
No customers are out of pocket and everyone got the energy they paid for. This money built up when pre-payment customers of one supplier mistakenly paid for energy with a token or smartcard from another company. All suppliers have decided to give this money to those who need it most. This is because it was not possible to find out which supplier the money should have been paid to.
Citizen’s Advice has been working alongside energy companies to make this happen.

“This is fantastic news and yet another example of energy companies’ commitment to helping their customers.
“It is great to see this £6million added to the hundreds of thousands of pounds suppliers already spend each year to help customers in difficulty.
