Energy UK's comment on European Commission’s State of the Energy Union report
Energy UK has issued a statement on European Commission's State of the Energy Union report.
Lawrence Slade, chief executive at Energy UK, said:
“We support the idea of a European Energy Union. A single European market in energy should be beneficial for the UK both in increasing competition and contributing to security of supply. A more joined-up energy policy approach across Europe is also important, but at the same time national governments should maintain the right to decide their own fuel mix. The papers published by the European Commission generally seem to strike the right balance. It is important the Commission builds on this pro-market approach when it brings forward proposals on electricity market design, renewables and energy efficiency in the coming year.”
