We are recruiting for an Economics and Statistical Officer for the economics and strategy team.

Energy UK is the trade association for the UK energy industry representing over 80 suppliers and generators of electricity and gas for domestic and business consumers. Our members represent the truly diverse nature of the UK’s energy industry - from the UK’s largest energy firms to new, growing suppliers and generators, now making up over half of our membership.

Energy UK provides a source of expert advice on industry matters and works to enhance the industry's reputation with customers and with the communities it serves.

About the Team

The Economics and Strategy Team provide analytical support to every area of Energy UK, including Generation, Retail and Comms & Public Affairs. In addition, the team leads on key cross cutting areas of strategic focus for the energy industry, including low carbon heat, electric transport, and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into the energy industry.

The team is a respected source of analytical support both within the organisation and also across membership. The team strives to provide analytical rigour that supports the position of the industry when facing external media scrutiny, such as on energy prices, and when presenting policy options to government.

About the Role

The Economics and Statistical Officer will be joining an analytical team with significant influence over policy direction. They will lead on generation focused activity, providing analytical support to policy leads on topics such as the Government’s Electricity Market Reform and encouraging investment in new build generation. They will also help other team members on retail focussed activity.

The role will encompass working closely with senior people across industry, providing both analytical and policy advice on cross cutting topics such as low carbon heat, electric transport, energy storage and Demand Side Response. There is considerable scope for the job holder to shape the future work programme in this area.

About the Individual

  • A graduate with numerical degree, preferably with an energy focus
  • Comfortable working with and maintaining large databases
  • Able to draw information from a variety of sources
  • Adept with MS Excel
  • A good verbal and written communicator, able to put across complex ideas
  • Will have interest and / or experience in energy policy
