Energy UK response to CMA final remedies
In response to the Competition and Markets Authority's final energy market reforms, Energy UK said:
“Customers need to be at the forefront of what industry does when delivering reliable, clean and affordable energy. The CMA has rightly identified consumer engagement as key to a competitive energy market. Industry will continue to work with government and the regulator to take forward the remedies in the best interest of consumers.
“Prices are now £200 cheaper with over 50 deals under £900. Almost two million customers have switched in 2016 so far, taking advantage of the better deals on offer. Industry has also launched the Energy Switch Guarantee - a set of standards - to boost customer confidence in switching. Compared to the landscape two years ago when the market was first referred, there are now more than 40 suppliers vying for customers’ attention.
“This is the time to redouble our efforts in reaching out to the customers who are less engaged in the market.”
