Energy UK's response to uSwitch on estimated bills
Following uSwitch's research on estimated bills, Energy UK issued the following statement.
Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK, said:
"We urge people - especially those who have never switched before - to take advantage of nearly 100 deals under £1,000 being offered by over 40 suppliers and join more than three million households who have already switched in 2016. With 15 fixed deals coming to an end next week customers should call their supplier to make sure they are on the best deal and avoid being put on to their supplier’s variable tariff which could cost more. It only takes a few minutes to shop around for the best tariff on offer from your current supplier or a new one by switching.”
“It is also very important for energy customers to submit meter readings regularly. This will help suppliers to bill customers more accurately and households will avoid building either a large credit or debit balance on their account. As smart meters are rolled out customers will get more control over their energy usage and see an end to estimated billing, but in the meantime a quick meter reading will keep bills accurate."
