Over 415,000 consumers switched in February

Competition working for more and more customers as figures up a fifth on January. The latest switching data, published by Energy UK today, reveals 419,599 customers switched electricity supplier in February, the highest number in this month for the past three years and an increase of 21% on last month.

There was also an increase in the number of customers switching from larger to small and mid-tier suppliers which represents 27% of switches or just over 110,000. The introduction of the Energy Switch Guarantee, which now covers 70% of the market, means it is simple, safe and speedy to switch.

Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK said:

“These ever-increasing switching numbers, alongside twice the number of existing customers making a tariff change with their existing supplier, demonstrates that competition is working for more and more consumers. If customers are unsure if they are on the best deal, check either by speaking to their current supplier or one of the 50 suppliers active in the market”.
