Energy UK comments on GB electricity demand and 24 hours without coal generation
Following the first 24 hour period where Great Britain’s electricity demand was met without the need for coal generation, Energy UK has issued a statement.
Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK said:
"This historic day shows just how much the UK’s energy system has been transformed in recent years. However, to transition to a low carbon and energy efficient economy, whoever forms the new Government in June must urgently set out the long-term policy framework to manage existing capacity and provide certainty to secure future investment.
"As illustrated by our recent report “Pathways to a Low Carbon Future” the next Government must take a holistic approach to energy policy that includes power, heat, transport, consumers and industrial strategy."
