Energy UK comments on fuel poverty statistics
Responding to today’s statistical release on fuel poverty, an Energy UK spokesperson said:
“Nobody should have to worry about heating or powering their home. The energy industry takes its commitment to protecting the most vulnerable, including those in fuel poverty, extremely seriously, last year investing £320 million to help vulnerable and low income consumers and launching two major initiatives to improve safeguards for those who need it most.
“The Government must ensure programmes, like Warm Home Discount, are better targeted and support those that are genuinely in need - the fuel poor. Energy efficiency must also be a national priority, as improving the energy efficiency of Britain’s houses will be the only way to address fuel poverty in the long term.
