Energy UK responds to the publication of draft energy price cap bill
Energy UK has issued the following statement in response to the publication of draft energy price cap bill.
Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK, said:
"Our latest figures show that over half a million customers switched electricity supplier last month, taking it to over four million customers who have switched supplier already this year. And the number of standard tariffs have fallen by almost a million in the last six months. This shows the pace of change in the energy market, with now over 50 suppliers for customers to choose from. While it is right we ensure greater protection for the most vulnerable, it is important that we do not risk halting this growth of competition and engagement in the market."
“Making our homes energy efficient would be the most effective way of reducing bills for customers over the long term so we welcome ambitious new targets from the Government today in the Clean Growth Strategy. How this will be funded is critical and we will work with Government to shape a national energy efficiency programme that will help reduce energy bills and ensure we meet the ambitious new targets set out today.”
