Energy UK comments on Hitachi announcement on UK new nuclear projects

Commenting on today’s announcement from Hitachi that they will end business operations of UK nuclear power station construction projects, Energy UK’s Chief Executive, Emma Pinchbeck said:

“Reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 will require a mix of low carbon technologies. Despite the disappointing news from Hitachi, there are still nuclear projects in the pipeline, and these are in most of the expert advice about how we can deliver Net Zero and create jobs for the Green Recovery.

“We would welcome further clarity from government on its nuclear strategy, including a decision on a funding model for new nuclear in the UK.”
