Responding to the Government’s announcement on the Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM) Charles Wood, Deputy Director for Policy at Energy UK, said:
“It is welcome to see the Secretary of State recommit to rolling out heat pumps to help hit the Government’s targets and reduce bills. Energy UK has been concerned about some of the tactics deployed by the largest boiler manufacturers in recent months and the CMA review of the market is both a welcome and necessary step.
“We look forward to the implementation of the CHMM in 2025 and hope to see the Government introduce the accompanying legislation as quickly as possible. The coming year should also be used to kick-start the conversation with the public about all the options available to homes and businesses when it comes to low-carbon technologies like heat pumps. The CHMM will give much-needed clarity to the sector so that businesses can invest with confidence in the UK, creating new jobs and delivering sustainable growth in the market towards the annual 600,000 installation target from 2028.
“Energy UK will continue to engage with the Government on an approach that delivers for customers and increases investment in the UK’s low-carbon heat market.”
