Energy UK responds to Secretary of State Innovation Zero speech

Responding to today’s speech by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho at the Innovation Zero Conference, Energy UK’s chief executive Emma Pinchbeck said:

“Businesses know that the shift to cleaner and greener technologies offers huge potential for economic growth, job creation and the opportunity to bring greater prosperity to all parts of the UK.

“It is through our businesses investing and innovating that the UK has led the world in reducing emissions and developing the technologies to tackle climate change. That’s because of clear direction and policies from government that have enabled them to make the long-term investments required and unleash their enterprise and expertise.

“At a time of increasing international competition for funding, it is more important than ever that we continue to provide the right environment to bring forward billions of pounds of investment that will benefit our economy, environment and people and ensure we don’t miss out on the opportunities in front of us.

“There remains a critical role for government in showing ambition and a clear, long-term policy direction that provides the certainty businesses of all sizes require – and to play a role in helping remove barriers around things like planning and infrastructure that can also inhibit growth and investment.”
