Do one DIY duty - fit an audible CO alarm
Spring holidays is a time for home improvement and tidying up. But the Easter bank holiday is also a time for domestic accidents as people fall from ladders, hit their thumbs with hammers and trip over pots of paint.
But there is one DIY duty you can do with no risk and which will actually cut the chances of injury at home. Fit an audible CO alarm. You don't even need a ladder as the alarm should be fitted at breath-height.
Every year people die, or are made seriously unwell, due to CO poisoning. The gas is tasteless and has no odour and, because it is heavier than air, builds up without anyone realising or even necessarily showing any symptoms. But CO is deadly and every year people die unnecessary when the gas replaces oxygen.
So, if you can't resist the urge to get on with some DIY, do something safe and instal an audible CO alarm.
