Energy UK comment on IoD smart meter review request to Government
Following the Institute of Directors (IoD) request of the Government to open an “urgent review” into the £11 billion smart meters programme, Energy UK issued a statement.
Lawrence Slade of Energy UK said:
"Smart metering will mean a fundamental shift in the industry’s relationship with its customers. It will mean more accurate bills, fewer complaints, easier switching, more control and new products and service.
"Industry is working hard to keep costs down and bring consumers the benefits. The Government’s latest Impact assessment showed the rollout would bring a net benefit of some £6bn.
"But it is so important to remember that smart meters will bring real benefits to vulnerable consumers, and especially those who use prepayment meters. They will eradicate the extra costs, provide better service and deliver more competitive pricing for those who need it most."
