The voice of the energy industry

Shining a light on young talent in energy

The shortlist for the Young Energy Professionals Forum Awards has been announced, highlighting some of the exceptional young professionals in the energy industry today.

This is the fourth year that Energy UK has sought to celebrate and recognise those who are new to the energy industry and already making a significant difference. Categories recognise those who have excelled in innovation, customer-focus and engineering among others, including rising star and team of the year.

The Awards form one aspect of the continued work by Energy UK to improve the equality and diversity in the energy industry.

Previous winners at the awards ceremony have worked on major infrastructure projects such as Hinkley Point C, developed fantastic initiatives such as Dementia Friends and advanced innovations being used today in the move towards a more flexible energy system.

This year’s judges, as always, came from right across the broad spectrum of the energy industry, with representatives from Electron, Greenpeace and Energy & Utility Skills. The awards are sponsored by CGI UK.

Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive of Energy UK said:

“The industry is transforming at a rapid pace so it is vital we engage more young people - through apprenticeships and training, encouraging an interest in STEM subjects and showcasing the variety of exciting roles within the energy industry.

“This year saw more rising star applications than ever before - a testament to talented professionals we have entering the energy industry.”

Andy Bull, Vice President Energy Retail, CGI UK said:

“With such a high standard of applications for this year’s Young Energy Professional of the Year, it has been a challenge to narrow it down to the final shortlist! The quality of the applicants and the projects they have been working on within the energy sector is inspiring. There is real talent amongst our young professionals and I look forward to seeing the changes they shape within the industry in the coming years.”
