Panel discussion: Delivering clean power

The panel will consider how to unleash the UK’s clean energy potential in an era of evolving markets, investment challenges, and connection backlogs.

As the UK embarks on a rapid transition to clean power in 2030, it is also undergoing the most significant electricity market reforms in a decade and fundamental changes to the role of gas in energy. Our panellists will discuss the challenges of attracting increased investment, diverging perspectives on market reforms and how these should be approached considering wider uncertainty, how connections and planning reforms will impact physical delivery, and how innovation can create opportunities for broader economic growth.

Speakers:

  • Steve Scrimshaw CBE, Non-Executive Director, Windward
  • Marisa Steyn, Partner, Gardiner & Theobald (Chair)

Panel discussion: Decarbonising demand

The panel will consider the critical role that households and business customers have to play in decarbonising the energy system.

Buildings account for nearly one-fifth of UK emissions and consumers are still grappling with expensive energy bills. Low-carbon technologies could resolve both these issues, but there are several barriers to adoption, including upfront investment and high electricity prices. Our panellists will discuss the policy and regulatory changes required to ensure switching to these products reduces bills, and how to raise consumer engagement in the transition.

Speakers:

  • Rachel Fletcher, Director of Regulation and Economics, Octopus Energy
  • Ravi Gurumurthy, Group Chief Executive Officer, Nesta
