Young Energy Professionals (YEP) Forum

People entering the energy sector are the future of the industry, and we’re proud to host the secretariat of the Young Energy Professionals Forum, which gives people with less than ten years’ experience in the industry opportunities to connect with others, develop their skills and inspire others working in energy.

Reflections on 2022

I am incredibly proud of what the YEP steering committee has achieved over the past 3 years, especially since the beginning of our tenure coincided with the first Covid-19 lockdown.

We adapted very quickly to deliver a programme of online engagement which, while no substitute for in-person events, meant that YEPs still had a place to engage with each other. The last couple of years has seen us slowly return to in-person events, as we increasingly host these outside of London.

I look forward to continuing to attend these events as a member of the forum and will take the valuable skills and knowledge I’ve gained through my tenure on the YEP SteerCo with me throughout the rest of my career in the energy sector.

Richard Gow
Outgoing SteerCo member and Senior Government Policy Manager, Drax

The YEP Forum is one of the few networks in the UK that provides new energy professionals an opportunity to connect and learn from one another regardless of which part of the industry they are in.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and engaging with people of vastly different backgrounds to myself from policy, engineering, retail and business development, I felt not only could I learn more about different part of the value chain and technologies but I could gain a deeper understanding of the importance of each aspect of the sector and how it all fits together. Not least of all, a great way to make some great friends along the way who constantly inspire me.

Sanjanaa Achar
Incoming SteerCo Member and Management Advisor to EVP Renewables, Equinor

The YEP Forum is a fantastic community to encourage and promote the next generation of energy industry leaders who will take the forward the challenges of today to meet our net zero future.

It is always a real pleasure to attend and support their events – it’s simply amazing to meet so many talented young people making such a difference to our industry and it gives me full confidence that our energy industry will be in the right hands in the future. I would encourage all young people in the industry to join the forum to meet likeminded people, collaborate and develop.

Tom Glover
UK Country Chair, RWE

I was delighted to be invited to speak at the YEP Forum Awards in November.

Young professionals play a vital role in making our energy system greener and more secure, and the YEP Forum’s importance lies in the way it can inspire and develop the next generation of energy industry leaders.

Lord Callanan
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at BEIS and YEP Awards Keynote Speaker

The YEP Forum has proved an invaluable network for my career change from a different sector. It has allowed me to connect with likeminded colleagues from all aspects of the energy industry, providing a supportive platform for discussing shared goals, industry insights, and career experiences.

The YEP Forum celebrates the best and the brightest of this critical sector – the very people who will be driving forward the energy transition – and I’m so proud to be a part of supporting this fantastic community.

Amarinda Bazeley
Incoming SteerCo Member and International Climate Policy Advisor, BEIS

The YEP Forum provides a great opportunity to meet professionals across the breadth of the energy industry, which can provide insight into areas you are not always exposed to in your day to day work.

The Forum holds a range of events providing updates on key developments within the industry and challenges that we will be facing.

By bringing everyone’s expertise together, it helps give a sense of optimism for the future while not underplaying the importance of the vast amount of work that still needs to be done.

Bespoke Pricing Manager, EDF and Winner of the YEP of the Year Award 2022
