POWERful Women is a professional initiative working for a gender-balanced, diverse and inclusive energy sector. Our goal is for women to be in at least 40% of middle management and leadership roles in the UK energy sector by 2030. We do this in three ways: challenge the sector and energy leaders (for example, publishing annual board statistics and engaging with the Energy Leaders’ Coalition), support the professional development of women (for example, through our mentoring programme,) and provide practical support to companies to improve their diversity and inclusion and connect through events and networking.

    Womens Utilities Network (WUN)

Womens Utilities Network (WUN) was founded in 2018 when a group of likeminded women, working in utilities, united around a common cause. The five founders were not only passionate about the industry they worked in, but also passionate about the contribution women were making and could continue to make in the future.

The Utilities sector still lacks diversity and with women still being underrepresented. Women make up only 28% of the Utilities workforce and 29.6% of leadership roles – Source Energy & Utility Inclusion Measurement Framework, 2025. Real action is needed across the industry if we are to see true equality and diversity, especially in the Utilities Sector. As a group, we know that this won’t change if we don’t do something about it and at WUN we are passionate about building a community of women who can connect, support, develop and encourage one another.

WUN has now created quite a movement. With over 8,800 members and followers, we provide a variety events for members to attend as well as a free mentoring service. WUN goes from strength to strength due to our ambitious plans and in January 2025 we won Network of the Year at The Great British Businesswoman Awards.
