The energy sector offers so many different opportunities, whether in an office, out at sea, talking with customers or communities or maintaining massive bits of kit. There’s something for everyone.

Hundreds of thousands of people work every second of every day maintaining a stable energy grid, which powers our daily lives. And the most exciting thing is, the sector is undergoing a huge transformation – electrifying our economy. This means lots of opportunities for innovation, and working towards directly improving people’s lives.

Energy UK’s Young Energy Professionals Forum’s Guide to Jobs in Energy showcases some of the different careers across the sector.

Lots of energy and supply chain companies offer apprenticeships, meaning you can learn while you earn.

There’s a wide range of types of apprenticeship on offer, with many only requiring GGSEs – meaning you can jump into the sector straight from school.

You’ll then split your time between working hands-on in your chosen area, and your local college. Some companies even have their own bespoke training centres. By the time you’ve finished, you’ll have plenty of experience and a solid foundation to progress your career in the industry.

We’ve spoken to apprentices across the energy sector, and they’ve told us the combination of academic study with hands-on experience keeps them challenged and suits their learning style.
