Energy UK responds to Government investment in nuclear

Responding to the Government’s investment in Sizewell C nuclear plant and small modular reactors (SMRs), Dhara Vyas, chief executive at Energy UK, said:

“Today’s announcement is a major vote of confidence in the role of nuclear power in delivering our clean, secure and affordable energy future.

“Recommitting to large-scale projects like Sizewell C, alongside the backing for SMRs marks a genuine turning point – giving long-overdue certainty to an industry with the potential to power millions of homes, create tens of thousands of jobs, and anchor economic growth in communities across the country.

Nuclear has been a cornerstone of Great Britain’s energy history and it must be part of our energy future, attracting international investment, driving domestic supply chains, and building a highly skilled, future-facing workforce. With the right policy environment and commitment to delivery, the UK can become a world leader in nuclear energy once again – from traditional major projects to innovative cutting-edge SMRs

The announcement today sends a clear signal that the UK is serious about long-term delivery, investment and securing our energy future.”
