Energy UK responds to the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate

Responding to confirmation of the ZEV mandate in Powering Up Britain, Yumann Siddiq said:

“The Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate is Government’s main policy to reduce the impact of emissions from road transport and will bring forward numerous benefits for Britain’s automotive industry, the energy sector – as well as all consumers.

“So we welcome confirmation that the mandate will start from the beginning of next year and urge the Government to get moving with the legislation which will put the 2030 and 2035 commitments to phase out polluting vehicles into law. Mass uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) along with the accompanying charging infrastructure will be vital to the Net Zero transition – not just through reducing emissions but because smart charging and vehicle-to-grid technology can help balance the Grid, lowering costs for all consumers and bolstering the UK’s energy security. With the energy sector already investing heavily, it is vital that the ZEV mandate is introduced as planned and can help drive further ambition from vehicle manufacturers.”
