Executive Summary
Energy UK welcomes Ofgem’s work to better understand how artificial intelligence technologies could be used in the energy sector and provides several recommendations to maximise the success and value of the AI Technical Sandbox.
We recognise that given the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, it is right that Ofgem is considering how to best mitigate any direct harms to customers, and support responsible AI adoption in the energy industry.
To support the design of the AI Technical Sandbox (the Sandbox), we have outlined key areas for improvement, to ensure it proves valuable to the sector and customers. These include that:
- The Sandbox should have a clear, narrow focus.
- Further information and consideration of timelines is needed.
- Further technical and legal detail on other elements of the Sandbox is needed.
