Executive Summary
Energy UK welcomes and supports the outlined reforms to enable connections reform
to be implemented and delivered at pace, critical to meeting the Clean Power 2030
action plan and to the wider delivery of a more efficient connections process and cost-effective energy system.
There remains a need for further work to give clarity on:
- The proposed capacity limits beyond 2030, with concern that these do not give
any incentive to invest in low carbon generation in certain areas of GB. - The Codification of the Connection Methodologies at distribution level and
strong license conditions for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to
progress network reinforcement and connections at all levels, aligned with a
system-wide approach to strategic planning.
It is also critical that industry is given forward sight of the guidance and declaration
documents to be used in the new connections approach, as there will be areas in need
of clarification, and a need for time to deliver the required evidence to advance to Gate
Two and wider milestones.
If you would like to discuss this response in further detail with Energy UK and its
members, we would welcome further engagement.
