Executive Summary
Energy UK is broadly supportive of a proposed UK Green Taxonomy. Given the early-stage proposals of the consultation however, much of this will be dependent on greater specifics of the future design and implementation of the proposed taxonomy. The most important aspect of UK Taxonomy design for members is the need to ensure that the administrative and reporting burden created by compliance is minimal, as this will be key to successful implementation. Energy UK also supports a UK Taxonomy being aligned with other standards internationally, as this will minimise additional reporting burdens for companies that operate in multiple markets. Finally, given where the UK is in developing its Taxonomy, there is an opportunity to learn from best practice in other jurisdictions about how to construct an effective Taxonomy, for example by ensuring it is targeted at sectors where a UK Taxonomy can add most value.
If you would like to discuss this response in further detail with Energy UK and its members, we would welcome further engagement.
