Energy UK to call for ‘bold choices’ at Annual Conference

The Government needs to build on its momentum so far and make ‘bold choices’, Energy UK’s chief executive Emma Pinchbeck will say at the industry’s annual conference today (Tuesday 17 September).

Energy Matters: Securing Britain’s Future’ is this year’s theme for the flagship event, sponsored by ScottishPower, and will also feature speeches by:

  • Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero,
  • Claire Coutinho MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero
  • Keith Anderson, CEO, ScottishPower
  • Jonathan Brearley, CEO, Ofgem
  • Alice Delahunty, President, Electricity Transmission, National Grid
  • Fintan Slye, Executive Director, ESO

Opening the Conference, Emma Pinchbeck will say:

“The new Government has wasted no time in stressing how central clean energy is to its ambitions. Meeting these aspirations and securing a future powered by clean homegrown energy relies on bold choices and critical decisions being made today – and that goes beyond just power generation. It means a similar focus on policies and actions across the whole energy sector which have a direct effect on customers’ lives – and crucially showing how we understand their concerns and the importance of an energy transition that delivers tangible benefits for people across the country.

“Energy’s importance to the wider economy, as well as an essential service, has never been clearer than in recent years and as an industry, we very much hope for a positive and productive relationship with the new Government as the best way to deliver on their ambitions.”

Full details of the Conference programme, speakers and panel discussions on different themes are available on Energy UK’s website with online tickets still available for purchase.

Energy UK has set out detailed proposals and policies for the new Government in 2024, as the energy sector looks to work in partnership on helping deliver its clean energy mission. Mission Possible: The steps to make Britain a clean energy superpower groups these proposals into five areas – each crucial to fulfilling the Government’s ambitions.

Energy UK is dedicated to ensuring that all events are inclusive, enhancing the experience for every attendee. To support this commitment, British Sign Language interpreters will be on stage at Energy UK’s Annual Conference.
