Energy UK response to consultation on Modernising Environmental Permitting for Industry

Publications Headers Consultation response2

Energy UK welcomes this consultation and broadly welcomes the proposed reforms to the environmental permitting system. These reforms should align critical elements of development with the Government’s and the energy sector’s shared ambitions. In light of the substantial private investment required to deploy low-carbon technologies critical to decarbonising the UK’s energy system and meeting the UK’s statutory Net Zero target and the ambition for Clean Power 2030, the regulatory framework governing environmental standards must remain stable and predictable. The proposed significant alterations to the existing UK BAT framework, for example, risk undermining investor confidence at a time when regulatory certainty is essential to enable long-term capital deployment.
